Implementation and Migration Plan

Implementation and Migration Plan is one of the TOGAF deliverables you can create with the TOGAF software.

The Implementation and Migration Plan provides a schedule for implementation of the solution described by a Transition Architecture. The Implementation and Migration Plan includes timing, cost, resources, benefits, and milestones for the implementation.

Step 1: Formulate Implementation and Migration Strategy

Describe the implementation direction and sequencing approach

Determine an overall strategic approach to implementing the solutions and/or exploiting opportunities. In this activity, you are required to describe the following items:

  • Strategic Implementation Direction: Determine an overall strategic approach to implementing the solutions and/or exploiting opportunities, such as Greenfield (i.e. a completely new implementation), Revolutionary (i.e. a radical change) or evolutionary (i.e. a convergence, such as parallel running or a phased approach to introduce new capabilities). Next, determine an approach for the overall strategic direction that will address and mitigate the risks identified in the Consolidated Gaps, Solutions, and Dependencies matrix. The most common implementation methodologies are: Quick win (snapshots), Achievable targets and Value chain method.
  • Implementation Sequencing Approach: When creating the Implementation and Migration Plan there are many approaches to consider, such as a data-driven sequence, where application systems that create data are implemented first, then applications that process the data.
