The SV-6 specifies the characteristics of the data exchanged between systems. It focuses on the specific aspects of the system data flow and the system data content in a tabular format.

Product Description

The SV-6 specifies the characteristics of data exchanges between systems. SV-6 is the physical equivalent of the logical OV-3, Operational Information Exchange Matrix, and provides detailed information on the system connections that implement the information exchanges specified in an OV-3. Human communications, such as verbal orders, are captured in the SV-1, Resource Interaction Specification, and SV-3, Resource Interaction Matrix, products only.

SV-6 describes, in a tabular format, data exchanged between systems, and the functions that produce and consume that data. SV-6 also specifies properties of these system data exchanges. MODAF does not mandate a set of standard properties, but it is typical to see periodicity, timeliness, throughput, size, information assurance and security characteristics of the exchange. In addition, the data elements, their format and media type, accuracy, units of measurement, and system data standard may also be described in the matrix.

Note that there are two diagrams available. The systems and the interactions between them can be represented with Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Performer-Based), while the communications between system ports can be described using the Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based).

Creating a Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Performer-Based)

To create a Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Performer-Based) table:

  1. Click on Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Performer-Based) in the Action Artifact area to open the Operational Exchanges table.
  2. This opens the Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Performer-Based) table with ResourceExchanges listed. The ResourceExchanges are defined in SV-1.
  3. For each of the ResourceExchanges:
    1. Select the items involved in resource exchanges.
    2. Optionally fill-in the attributes of operational exchanges.

Creating a Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based)

The Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based) table specifies the resource flows among resources. Unlike the performer-based table, role-based table focuses on the interactions between roles inside the resource performers.

To create a Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based) table:

  1. Click on Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based) in the Action Artifact area to open the System Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based) table.
  2. This opens the Systems Data Exchange Matrix (Role-Based) table with ResourceExchanges listed.
  3. For each of the ResourceExchanges:
    1. Create a new ResourceExchange by clicking on the New Resource Exchange above the table.
    2. This creates a new row of ResourceExchange. Enter its name.
    3. Select the ResourceConnector that the ResourceExchange realizes. The ResourceConnectors are defined in SV-2.
    4. Select the items involved in resource exchange.
    5. Optionally fill-in the attributes of resource exchanges.
