C5 – Effects

The purpose of the C5 Viewpoint is to describe the operational effect of the capabilities, activities, and services according to the expected goals. The C5 Viewpoint is a high-level description that should be easily understood by non-technical readers.

Usage

The intended usage of the C5 includes:

  • Characterization of the expected results capabilities, positive or negative.
  • Analysis of cumulative effects.
  • Analysis of persistence of the effects.
  • Tracing the operational states and modes with regards to the effects.

Creating an Effects diagram

To create an Effects diagram:

  1. Click on Effects in the Action Artifact area, and then select Create New Diagram.
  2. Type the diagram name and press Enter.
  3. A blank diagram is created and you can start constructing the view by defining AchievedEffects (A dependency relationship that exists between an ActualState of an element that attempts to achieve a DesiredEffect and an Achiever) and DesiredEffects (A dependency relationship relating the Desirer to an ActualState).

NATO NAF Example: Effects
