SV-5a – Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix

The SV-5a addresses the linkage between System Functions described in SV-4 Systems Functionality Description and Operational Activities specified in OV-5a Operational Activity Decomposition Tree or OV-5b Operational Activity Model. The SV-5a depicts the mapping of system functions and, optionally, the capabilities and performers that provide them to operational activities. The SV-5a identifies the transformation of an operational need into a purposeful action performed by a system or solution.

Usage

The intended usage of the SV-5a includes:

  • Tracing functional system requirements for user requirements.
  • Tracing solution options to requirements.
  • Identification of overlaps or gaps.

Product Description

SV-5a consists of two products:

  • Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping
  • Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix

Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping is a diagram or a set of diagrams that visualizes the relationships between the set of operational activities applicable to an Architectural Description and the set of system functions applicable to that Architectural Description.

Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix is a non-editable matrix that shows the mapping between operational activities and system functions as modeled with Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping (diagram).

Creating an Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping (diagram)

To create an Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping:

  1. Click on Operational Activity to Systems Function Mapping in the Action Artifact area, and then select Create New Diagram.
  2. Type the diagram name and press Enter.
  3. A blank diagram is created and you can start constructing the view.
  4. Reuse OperationalActivities (recommended) through dragging and dropping them from the Model Explorer. OperationalActivities are defined in OV-2.
  5. Reuse Functions (recommended) through dragging and dropping them from the Model Explorer. Functions are defined in SV-4.
  6. Connect Functions and OperationalActivities with Implements connectors.

Creating an Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix

To open the Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix:

  1. Click on Operational Activity to Systems Function Traceability Matrix in the Action Artifact area.
  2. View the relationships between OperationalActivities and Functions, which are listed as rows and columns, respectively. The cells indicate the mapping between elements if one exists
